Eternal Rewards

From the Word of God we have seen that what we do here for God and people get rewarded not only here but in heaven. We are told not to seek man’s praise or rewards but to seek heavenly rewards and treasures.  We will look at some rewards and treasure that we will receive when we are in Heaven.

Let’s begin with a look at Luke 22:28-30

28.) But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.  29)And, I bestow upon you a kingdom just as My Father bestowed one upon Me. 30) that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus is talking to his twelve disciples, and we see that they will be eating and drinking at the table of the Lord. We also see that they will be judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  It appears that this judging of the twelve tribes of Israel falls on the disciples that were with Jesus while He was on earth.

A closer look at reigning with Christ appears in Revelation. Chapters 2 and 3 talk about the seven churches, there is both admonishment and correction given to many of them. We see in verse 26 of chapter 2 the rewards to those that overcome; they will be given power over the nations. Now in chapter 3 in verse 20 it tells us that he who overcomes will be granted to sit with Jesus on His throne.

2 Timothy 4: 7-8

7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  8.) Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge will give me on that Day, and not to me only but to all who have loved His appearing.

Can we say the same as Paul, are we fighting the good fight, keeping the faith, and are we waiting in anticipation for the return of Christ. Only those who are walking worthy are truly excited for his appearing, those who are living for self and in the world do not think about it or look forward to it; which one are you? Is there a crown of righteousness waiting for you at the judgment seat of Christ?

The Word of God tells us, as we live a life through Jesus that we shall also reign with Him and sit on His throne, a further look in Revelation speaks of overcomers wearing garments of white,

Revelation 3:4

You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white for they are worthy.

Revelation 19: 7-8

7) Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. 8.) And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

We can infer from these verses that to wear a garment described above, we have to be found worthy, and so this means there may be those that will not be found worthy.

This is a short study of pointing out the rewards that wait for those who love the Lord and live for Him. We often get discouraged for doing good but never getting rewarded for it. God knows all that we do for Him.  We often lose perspective because the world we live in seems so unfair and cruel. But, we as Christian believers have far greater rewards than this life can ever offer to us.  We need to keep in mind our eternal rewards and life eternal, when we do, everything here in this world becomes less significant to us.
